Meet the Mrs. Christensen
I am Amanda Christensen. I graduated with my degree is Elementary Education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD in 2011. I have a minor in Special Education and Middle School Endorsements in Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts. I completed my Masters Degree from Augustana University with a Reading Specialist Degree in 2015 and am now pursuing my administrative license from the University of Dayton, OH.
The 2018-2019 school years is my eighth year of teaching. I taught for the last five years at the Mitchell School District in 4th grade at Longfellow Elementary. Before that, I taught two years of 5th grade at the West Central School District. In addition to teaching, I've also coached volleyball and served on various committees.
I am excited about staring a new adventure in Williston, ND for the 2018-2019 school year. There is so much to look forward to. This year I will be getting to know my students as learners and as individuals with special interests and learning needs. My goal is to meet the needs of each student in my class. Students will be learning in a variety of ways. Sometimes we'll all be working together; at other times, students will be working in small groups, with a partner, or on their own. For group work, they will sometimes chose who to work with and what project they want to tackle. Other times, I will form groups and assign projects based on what students know, what they need to learn, or how they prefer to learn. All students will be offered challenging learning experiences and all will be actively involved in their learning.
My goal is to provide opportunities for all students to be successful and to enjoy learning. Students love both variety in learning and taking on new challenges. They learn at different paces and they all have preferences about how they like to learn and how they like to show what they have learned. I will do my professional best to attend to differences among students, trying to ensure that each student is a successful, confident learner.
